Burt

1871 - Unknown

Burton Creal was born abt 1871 in Smith County, Mississippi.  Burton is believed to be Henry "Pa" Creal's son from his first marriage, and there is no known information on his mother.  

​

According to the 1900 United States Census, Burton married Loose in 1895, and they lived in Laurel, Jones County, Mississippi. 

 

At this time, Burton went by the name "Burt Creel," and they had two children.  Burt and Loose owned their farm mortgage-free. 

 

Burt's sisters, Martha Ann Creal Hicks and Mary Annice Creal Barnes lived next door and down the road from him.  According to the Census, in 1910,

 

Burt and Loose lived at Beat 2, Jones County, Mississippi, and they had five children. 

​

Burt married Viola Hatten after the pasting of his wife, Loose.  According to the 1920 Census, Burt and Viola lived in Laurel, Jones County, Mississippi, with their seven children.  

 

Burt and Viola divorced sometime between 1920 and 1930, as the 1930 Census shows Viola as being divorced.   

​

It's unknown what happened to Burt. However, it is believed that he went to jail for making and selling moonshine wine. 

 

Some of his descendants remained in Mississippi others relocated to Illinois and Ohio.

Martha Ann

Martha Ann Creal Hicks

1874 - 1951

Martha Ann Creal was born in October abt 1874 in Smith County, Mississippi.  She was the first daughter of her parents.  Her father, Henry was 31, and her mother, Amanda was 18.  

 

Martha married Alonzo Hicks in 1892 when she was about 18 years old.  They lived in Laurel, Jones County, Mississippi, with 3 children according to the 1900 Census.  Her brother Burt and Sister Mary Annice lived down the road from her. 

 

In 1910 they lived at Beat 2, Jones, Mississippi, on a farm.  Martha passed in 1951 in Chicago, Illinois, at the age of 77.  Some of her descendants remained in Mississippi others moved to California, Illinois, and Tennessee. 

Mary Annice

Mary Annice Creal Barnes

1877 - 1926

Mary Annice Creal Barnes was born in September 1877 in Mississippi to Amanda "Mandy" Duckworth Creal age 21, and Henry "Pa" Creal, age 33. 

 

Mary Annice Creal married Elias B. Barnes in 1893 when she was 16 years old.  According to the 1900 Census, they lived in Laurel, Jones County, Mississippi, with their four children.  Her brother Burt and sister Martha Ann lived down the road from her. 

 

By 1910 they lived on a farm located at Beat 2, Jones, Mississippi, with their four children.  She is now going by the first name Mary. 

​

In the 1920 Census, they lived in Pennington, Bradley County, Arkansas, on a farm with their youngest three children, down the road from her parents and sister Donie Creal Chatman. 

​

Mary Annice Creal Barnes passed on January 9, 1926, in Bradley County, Arkansas.  It is unknown what happened to her descendants.

Sylvester

1879 - 1929

Sylvester Creal was born on April 10, 1879, in Mississippi.  His father, Henry was 35 and his mother Amanda was 23.

 

He had three sons and three daughters with Lula McDaniel between 1905 and 1916.  In 1918 they lived in Jefferson County, Arkansas.  

 

He died on September 11, 1929, in Louisiana at the age of 50.  It is said he shot his wife, she shot him back, and they both died on the same day.  Some of his descendants relocated to Kansas, Texas, and California.

1882 - 1959

Devan Creal was born on December 24, 1882, in Hattiesburg, Mississippi.  His father, Henry was 39 and his mother, Amanda was 26.

​

He had one son and one daughter with Willie Mae Scott between 1904 and 1916. He died in 1959 in Kansas City, Kansas, at the age of 77.  His descendants relocated to Kansas and California.

Donie

1886 - 1976

Donie Belle Creal was born in Mississippi on April 26, 1886.  Her father, Henry was 42 and her mother, Amanda, was 30. 

 

Donie married Louis Chatman in 1903 in Mississippi. 

 

Before 1910, they relocated to 646 Wanen Road, Pennington, Bradley County, Arkansas, probably when her parents moved. 

 

In 1910, her family lived next door to her parents, and they had three children.

​

According to the 1930 Census, Donie and her husband lived on Highway 67 Asphalt, Franklin, Arkansas.  They had four children and three grandchildren. 

​

Donie was a seamstress and often made clothes for family members.

 

Her last known address was in Davenport, Iowa, where she passed in February of 1976. She was 89 years old. 

 

Some of her descendants relocated to California.  

Luella

Luella Creal Davis

1888 - Unknown

Luella Creal was born in July 1888 in Smith County, Mississipi.  Her father, Henry was 44, and her mother, Amanda was 32.

 

Luella married Joseph Davis on December 15, 1905, in Tillar, Desha County, Arkansas, when she was 18, and he was 47. 

 

According to the 1910 Census, they lived in Franklin, Drew County, Arkansas.  She had three children and two stepchildren.

 
In 1920 they lived at Tillar and MT Schee Road, Franklin, Drew County, Arkansas, with their five children.  

 

Henry "Son"

1890 - 1968

Henry Lovell Creal was born September 25, 1890, in Summerland, Mississippi.  Father, Henry was 46 and his mother, Amanda was 34.  

 

They affectionately called him “Son."
 
In 1900, when Son was about ten years old, he lived with his parents and siblings on their farm at Beat 4, Noxubee County, Mississippi.  
 
By 1910, when Son was a teenager, his parents relocated to Pennington, Bradley County, Arkansas.
 
Son, like his father, worked in the farming industry.  Son had his first son, Jack, with Tennie Jones around 1813.     
 
On June 5, 1917, he registered for the military probably because America was about to enter World War I.  He listed himself as unmarried and living in Warren, Arkansas.  

 

He served in the Military from August 23, 1918,

to December 21, 1918.
 
Son had two daughters.  One is believed to be named Sarah.  They were born in Arkansas before his first marriage.  

 

The birth order of Son’s first three children is unknown, although it is believed Jack is the firstborn.  
 
On February 15, 1920, in Warren, Bradley County, Arkansas, Son married Leona Kilgore.  He was 27, and she was 19.  Their parents lived next door to each other.
 
On May 10, 1923, Son and Leon
a's first daughter, Deressa, was born in Warren, Arkansas.  

 
On July 11, 1925, Son and Leon
a’s first son, Henry Lavell Creal, was born.  

 

Their next son, Lawrence Creal, was born in August 1927.   

​

In 1930, Son and Leona's last son was born, Roosevelt Theodore Creal. 

​

They lived on a farm in Jefferson County, Arkansas.  About two years later, Son's wife, Leona Kilgore Creal, passed away.
 

NEW DISCOVERY

In 1935 Son lived in Portland, Ashley, Arkansas.  In 1940 Son lived in Banner, Ashley County, Arkansas and he was married to Isabel.  Also, he has a daughter named Bernice, who was nine years old, according to the 1940 Census.  Bernice was probably born in 1931.  More research or facts are needed.
 
Son met Bessie Wallace through his brother Barney Creal who was married to her sister Annie Wallace Creal.  Sometime after 1930, Son and Bessie lived together.  

 

Annie, their first child, was born abt 1933, and their second daughter, Mattie Creal, was born in September.  Son’s children from his marriage with Leona, Deressa, Henry, Lawrence, and Roosevelt lived with them. 
 
  Bessie Wallace passed away on October 21, 1937, in Ashley County, Arkansas, his youngest two daughters' mother.  
 
On January 17, 1942, Henry’s son, Lawrence, passed away at age 14, while living with his older brother Jack Creal in Sherrill, Arkansas. 

 

In 1942  according to Son’s military draft card, he lived in Ashley County, Arkansas.  
 
On December 13, 1944, Son married Gertrude Williams in Hamburg, Ashley County, Arkansas.  

 

It is said that after their marriage, they moved to Vanport, Oregon, to pick apples.  
 
Vanport, Oregon, was going through many changes as the black population was rapidly increased.  

 

On May 30, 1948, Vanport was destroyed when a berm collapsed during a flood.  Son and Gertrude, along with most of the residents, escaped to Portland, Oregon.  
 
Henry “Son” Creal lived in Portland, Oregon, until he passed away on January 13, 1968, at age 78. 

Nina

Nina Creal

Nina Creal was born in June abt 1892 in Mississippi.  Her father, Henry, was 48, and her mother, Amanda, was 35 according to the 1900 Census. 

​

What happened to Nina Creal?

 

Unfortunately, no other information is known about Nina.  Or if Nina was her first name.  The Census was not legible.

​

By 1910, Nina should have been around 17 when her parents had relocated to Arkansas. 

 

The estimated time of their relocation falls between the fall of 1900 and before December of 1905. 

 

So Nina would have been under 25 by 1905. 

 

In 1910 her mother, Mandy, had nine living children, so she was probably alive.  More research and or facts need to be discovered.

Barney

Barney Creal

1896 - 1933

​

Barney Creal was born on June 21, 1896, in Summerland, Mississippi. 

 

It is very possible Barney was the grandson of Henry and Amanda and not a son, as told by their youngest daughter Lessie.

​

Barney didn't show up until the 1910 Census, and he was about 15 years old. 

 

Deressa Creal Thompson, the daughter of Henry "Son," remembered Barney as her favorite Uncle. 

 

She told many stories about her Uncle Barney, and she even named one of her daughters after him. 

 

Barney introduced her father, Henry Creal, to his 3rd wife her, youngest sister's mother.

​

Barney married Maud Scobey on January 23, 1916, in Bradley County, Arkansas. 

 

On June 5,  1917, Barney registered for the Services.  He lived in Humphrey, Jefferson County, Arkansas, and they had one child.

​

On June 10, 1919, Barney Creal departed to St Nazaire, France, on a ship named Mexican to serve in the Army. 

 

He listed Mandy Creal as his mother and next of kin.  His Company was:    

COMPANY B, 513TH ENGINEERS (COLORED)

​

In 1920, Barney lived on the farm with Pa and Mandy.  He worked at the Saw Mill.  He listed himself as being married.

 

He then married Annie Gordon on March 23, 1931, in Tillar, Drew County, Arkansas.  According to the 1930 Census,

 

Barney was living with his in-laws in Pennington, Bradley County, Arkansas.

​

Barney died on January 14, 1933, in Bradley County, Arkansas, at 36. 

 

He was buried at St Paul Cemetery in Warren, Arkansas.  Barney was thought to be poisoned.

Lessie

1900 - 1990

When Lessie Bertha Creal was born on July 9, 1900, in Noxubee, Mississippi, her father, Henry was 56, and her mother, Amanda, was 44.

 

Lessie was 16 when she married William A. Johnson on September 2, 1916, in Warren, Bradley County, Arkansas. 

 

According to the 1920 Census, their Home in 1920 was Police Jury Ward 4, West Feliciana, Louisiana.

​

In 1930 Lessie was living in Flint, Michigan, with her husband and four children.

 

By 1940 according to the Census, Lessie was living in Columbus, Ohio, with her children and grandchildren.

​

Lessie died on March 14, 1990, in Columbus, Ohio, at the age of 89.
